It's hard to believe I will be celebrating my one year anniversary with At Home Personal Care next month! I can honestly say that this has been the most rewarding, fun, and fulfilled career I have ever had. People continuously ask me no matter where I am...supermarket, airport, etc. "So, how did you get into the Senior Care Industry?" Good question! My grandparents had home care for several years before they passed away. My grandmother suffered Dementia and my grandfather developed Parkinson's Disease. I knew the challenges my Aunt faced in finding good, quality home care to help them. They eventually fell in love with their caregiver Holly, who lived with them until the end. She became part of the family and with her, my grandparents were able to live comfortably in their own home, and it helped relieve much stress from my aunt. Unfortunately, my own parents passed away at a young age. I will never have that opportunity to care for them or visit with them in their "old age". I'd like to think they are proud of me for choosing such a career and I feel blessed to be working for such a great company.
So much has changed in the last year...watching At Home Personal Care grow, acquiring new patients (or as Samantha would say "adopted grandparents"), attending seminars, building relationships with other health care professionals, learning something new from my coworkers, organizing fundraisers, winning awards and revamping our website! (which you are seeing now) I would have never guessed that a year from when I started with AHPC that I would be writing for the company blog. Yes, I do have a fun job. I maintain our website, social media, newsletters, events, and still manage to network within my community and help educate families on the benefits of home care. But the real fun and satisfaction comes when heartwarming stories are told and shared amongst our team, "thank you" cards are received from families expressing their gratitude for what we have done, or caregivers who go above and beyond what one could only imagine in order to help our patient in need.
Even though we are a large organization, we still maintain a "small company feel". We have weekly conference calls where we all discuss the weeks events and operations. We know every single patients name and family. Our CEO visits each office on a monthly basis and spends time visiting our clients and meeting other professionals within our community. At Home Personal Care is comprised of so many talented, educated, and compassionate individuals from various backgrounds. I believe it is one of the reasons that makes us unique. But most importantly, our caregivers are the heart of our business. They are the ones making life or death decisions, assisting our patients daily, providing emotional support, being a friend, standing up for our patients against all odds, ensuring patient safety, and some have even watched as patients live their final days. These men and women are some of the most heroic, giving, and selfless individuals. Caregiving is one of the fastest growing professions in the health care industry today. Most choose this field based off their own personal experiences and wanting to continue to serve and help those in need. Our company recognizes their actions and we commend and praise them for their work.
Some of our management and staff will be "guest blogging" from time to time here on important topics, industry news, and much more. Our blog will be a resource for families looking for care and we hope to answer some very important questions here. Feel free to comment with your thoughts, share a personal story of your own, or leave us a question that we can help answer. I look forward to updating our blog weekly and posting new information!
